4 September

The season has drawn to a close today and the gate has been shut - only seems like yesterday we opened!  Thank you all very much for staying with us this summer and those of you who were met with "Bookings Only" on the phone or at Reception; PLEASE come and see us in 2007.  The booking trend is gaining in popularity.  If you had said to me 5 years ago that you needed to nook a space in a field I would have thought you were joking!  But that is the case now so as soon as you have your holiday dates give Sarah a call and make a reservation.  Our online form will be back in action later this month so you can always use that method.

Thanks for all the gifts: chocolates, beer, flowers, wine and more.  We do appreciate your kindness.  (Bertie and Jack say thanks for the BBQ'd sausages!)

Have a good winter.

14 August

The Steam train known as "The Torbay Express" has been been running the last couple of weekends and is set to run on Sundays until 3 Sept - great to see and hear the chuffing.  More details here. The fireworks were fantastic - if you go to the webcam page there is a link to some pics from Saturday night.

"If the children are happy then Mum and Dad will be happy...!"  You will love this great news: "Warren named in Top 10 Children's Beaches" - Full story HERE.

11 August

We are now FULL until Monday 28th August.  Come and stay with us from then until Sunday September 3 (when we close).  Camping is ever more popular - get your booking in for 2007 as soon as you have your holiday dates!

8 August

The scorching hot weather is back!  It has been great to see so many of our "old" customers this summer, some of whom have missed a couple of years with us.  It was interesting to hear them comment that they were pleased to see we have not changed anything - and that we remain a proper camping site - NOT a holiday park!  Hopefully we will see you next year.  The excitement is building for the coming weekend and Carnival week.  Get the list of events at

This year we are "chipping in" to the fund for the fireworks on Saturday evening - we are pleased to sponsor such a fantastic opening event for Carnival week.  I am not sure which rocket will have our name on it but hopefully it will make a lasting impression!!

1 August

We are virtually full now until Saturday 26th August - so if you have not yet booked then we may not be able to help.  Every year folk book earlier and earlier and add this fact to the "new campers" who have just discovered the joys of sleeping under "canvas" we are experiencing a very busy season.  Why not come just after the Bank Holiday - we close on September 3rd so you can get a few days in??

The Jousting Tournaments at the Warren are proving ever popular - we have the jesters in every Sunday dancing around the site handing out leaflets!  If you can't make Carnival week with us then don't forget you can see the fireworks on Sat 12th on the webcam (link above).  And also the helicopter display on Thursday 17th on the Green at the Warren.

After 32 days of glorious sunshine the weather broke on Saturday/Sunday and I have to say the showery rain was most welcome!  Hopefully we will be back to "normal" sunshine in the next day or two!

Hopefully see you this month?

25 July

We were very busy last weekend and are now effectively full until week commencing 19th August.  Please phone if you wish to book for any time (minimum 3 nights) from Saturday 19th August as it is easier for us this time of year as we do not have a PC in our site office!

The funfair arrived in Dawlish town on Sunday for a week or so - they also put on a firework display this Wednesday evening (tomorrow).

Bertie has met many of his "fans" this week and Jack has caused quite a stir too.  It is too hot for them to stay at Leadstone all day but they do come in a couple of mornings a week when it looks a little cooler!

Sarah and I are Looking forward to seeing all the "regulars" due this weekend - bring a parasol... you'll need it.

17 July

Another great week for our visitors!  Teignmouth Carnival week is approaching and kicks off on 23rd July culminating with the Grand Procession on the evening of Friday 28th July.  Their website is here.

A great new addition to the varied activities down on the Warren is the "Pirate Cove" Mini Golf, it is 16 holes of adventure and the 16th is the challenge.  Some manage a hole in one but I gave up after 17 attempts..... Give it a go when you are here!

A couple of pics to wet your appetite taken yesterday - the one on the right taken from inside the cave.

10 July

Went swimming in the sea last week - and very pleasant it was too!  Almost bumped into the "local" seal - you don't do that every day.....   I know I have mentioned it before but campers are booking up earlier than ever. If you still have not made up your mind about dates yet you can check the BOOKING FORM page for an outline of availability.  I'm not a football fan but I could not escape the fact that the World Cup was on TV last evening - I wandered around the site about 8.30pm and took some pics with my cameraphone (in need of updating now) - hardly a soul in sight (excuse the pun).  The setting sun casting some welcome shade following another hot afternoon.

The previous night there was some excitement when an old steam powered lorry - literally "ran out of steam" by our gate.  He was on his way to Powderham Castle for the huge "Historic Vehicle Gathering" yesterday.  The Jousting started yesterday - a great value afternoon when you've had enough of the beach (can you ever have enough?).  This year it is located just off the main road into the Warren.

17 June

What a fantastic start to the new season!  Lots of "weekenders" turned up on spec on Friday evening- funny effect the sun has!!  Come and join us the long range forecast looks great.  Great to see the"old stagers" who return year after year - you are all very welcome.

7 June

Less than 10 days to go now! Boy has it been hot here this week and it is looking good for the summer. The site is looking magnificent.   If you haven't checked out the webcam yet then I really can recommend it as a "Favourite".  (I look at it all the time! It is swung around to give different images from time to time).  The sunrise and sunset are great times to take a look.

Those of you who know the Warren well, may be interested to hear that the bread/cake shop next to the fish/chip shop has closed and re-opened as a Chinese takeaway - Hakaryu - we had a meal from there on Monday evening and it was very tasty.  A different style to the Mei Lai Cantonese on the Dawlish Road.  If you are interested you can see their menu here.

If you are out and about locally, call into Teignmouth where there is a great children's play park on the sea front and our local adventurer, Simon Chalk, is in temporary residence on the Den with his Spirit of Teignmouth "Sail around the World the wrong way" yacht building project.  More details here.

15 May 2006 - Lots of news!!

The beach at Dawlish Warren has once again been awarded a prestigious Blue Flag award for 2006 - I think this is the 6th year on the trot.

Bring yer bike!!  There is a fantastic new cycle trail on Haldon (about 10 minutes drive from Leadstone) set in the forests. A major grant from Sport England has enabled the Forestry Commission to turn the 3500-acre Haldon Forest on a high ridge on the outskirts of Exeter into a pioneering outdoor activity centre for all ages and abilities to enjoy. The newly-built trail infrastructure provides more than 20 miles of safe, traffic-free cycling, walking, horse-riding and adventure play trails.

From gentle strolls through butterfly woods to adrenaline-charged downhill mountain bike runs to open stretches for galloping horse rides, Haldon Forest Park is no ordinary walk in the woods!

The Family Cycling Trail is the least challenging route, which follows a line around the contours on the top of the ridge taking in magnificent views. The Adventure Cycling Trail is a second loop that takes riders on a more rugged surface down into the forest, and Haldon Forest Park's Freer Ride area offers two adrenaline-charged, single-track trails - one Cross Country and the other a Free Ride riddled with timber structures, jumps and drops.

Those seeking encounters with Haldon's thriving wildlife can opt for The Butterfly Walk, with its managed population of rare butterflies, including the pearl-bordered fritillary, or they can head for the Birds of Prey Observation Point to see whether they can spot the buzzards. The forest also has a rare population of nightjars, mysterious ground-dwelling birds with a haunting song. And there are a multitude of other paths, tracks and forest roads that visitors can explore at their leisure. More HERE

14 May 2006

Members of our family have taken part in the River Teign Rowing Club races for many years and as a little business we have usually sponsored a boat or team in one way or another.  This year we are supporting Sarah's team who are the "longest serving" original rowing team in the rowing club which has around 650 members!  The girls practice regularly and frequently finish in the top 10 (out of around 25 ladies' teams).  Look out for them on the river/sea on practice/race nights.  More on the rowing club here.

The pic shows Sarah (4th on right)and pals at the end of the first race this season (last night).

5 May 2006

Just a quick note to say that there is a webcam (located at The Mount Pleasant Inn) looking towards the beach.

27 February 2006

Hi all!  A belated Happy New Year!

I have just finished the What's On page to the best of my knowledge and will add further dates/events as and when they become known.  Bertie has been getting Jack (our new springer spaniel) up to speed with the campsite and giving him detailed tours of the fields and hedgerows.  Bert has been considering his options for the coming season ....

Lifeguard   ......                 Tour guide.....               Glass collector....

But don't worry - whatever he decides he will still put in regular appearances at Leadstone!!

Bookings are coming in well - as soon as you know your holiday dates get yours in!

7 November 2005

Website updated with 2006 Tariff and a few more pics. Check out Bertie's page!

It was a busy summer! - I "ran out of steam" at the August Bank Holiday weekend and forget to add a note on this page to thank everyone for staying with us this summer. Sarah and I were really pleased to meet you all - we look forward to welcoming you in 2006. The electric hookups went very quickly - so don't leave it too late to book for the summer!

We have had a fair amount of rain in the last few weeks which has done the camping fields a power of good!

Sarah and I will take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, and if you are off on a New Year "rally" have fun - we'll see you in June.

Happy Camping
Andrew, Bertie and Jack (see Bertie's page!)
