The Carnival Week in town is going ahead but without some of the events due to the uncertainties. These things take months to organise - you cannot just turn up on the day and organise it! Please do support the week (14 - 20 August) as there are hundreds of hours put in by a small team of voluntesrs for everyone's enjoyment. More at the official Dawlish Celebrates Carnival website.
The Summer Fireworks at the Warren on Thursday 19th August have also been cancelled but all being well, will be back next summer!
Boris has stuck by his word and "roadmap out of lockdown" sees the gradual easing of restrictions which is excellent news! As last year things will be a little different so here are a few things to note for this season at Leadstone Camping.
First of all! We look forward to seeing you all this summer – it’s been a long winter.
As the epidemic is steadily (and thankfully) coming under control we are mindful that it is still “out there” – even after 21st June when the rules are relaxed further.
Sarah and I look forward to seeing you from 28th May!
We all have our fingers (and everything else) crossed that Coronavirus restrictions will be lifted on June 21st! However until they are lifted we will not be offering any "Bread, milk, eggs, etc" or Ice pack hire / freezing service - sorry. Similarly, hairdriers are NOT permitted in the facilities block.
You never know, if things continue at such speed with the vaccination programme the restrictions *may* be lifted earlier - if they are, normal service will be resumed - hooray! Here's hoping...
I spotted this great video on YouTube recently fimed in early July 2020 - it s virtual tour of our site - on foot.
That was a great, but shortened, season here at Leadstone Camping! Operating at a reduced capacity we welcomed lots of "regulars" and many new faces - enjoying their first taste of the great outdoors. Hopefully those new to camping had a great time and will return to the southwest in years to come. Thanks to you all for observing the various "Covid secure" measures we had to put in place for everyone's benefit.
Needless to say we have masses of bookings for 2021 already - the future for staycationing looks rosy with no hassles at an airport or port to complicate your leisure time! As soon as you know your dates why not make a booking with us for next summer? Our online booking system is ready to take your enquiry and reserve your spot.
Sarah and I look forward to seeing you in 2021 when we will be open from Friday 28th May until Monday 6th September. Thanks again for staying with us this year.
PS. One date for your diary: Dawlish Carnival week: 14 - 20 August 2021
Sarah and I can't wait to see you all again this summer however....
Things are different this year!
It goes without saying if you have any symptoms of coronavirus please stay at home - do not travel!
If you have stayed with us previously the first thing you will notice is that we can only have 1 visitor at a time in Reception so if necessary, please queue outside (2m apart).
Due to the restrictions we will NOT be offering our usual “basics” grocery offering – NO milk, bread, drinks, etc. Scott at Forest Fungi Farm Shop next door (about 100 yards along the verge) will be open from 7am until at least 6pm this summer. Their shop will stock milk, bread (and mushrooms!) etc. Additionally, Scott and his team have developed an exciting “visitor experience” project over the winter – well worth a look. You can also “call and collect” groceries – 01626 864111.
****Ice pack service**** – we will NOT be offering this due to coronavirus restrictions so you will need a camping fridge to keep your wine (and milk) cool…
We have a “One Way” system in place at the facilities – please follow it wherever you are pitched.
We will be increasing our cleaning sessions – you may find some facilities closed but there will always be an option. Please be patient and observe social distancing at all times – 2 metres where possible. We will keep any disruption to a minimum.
If you have facilities (toilet/shower/washing/teeth brushing, etc.) within your “unit” you are strongly advised to use them – we have a chemical toilet disposal point and grey waste water facilities on-site.
Kindly note: In line with Government guidance ANY unattended personal items will be removed from ALL areas in the facilities block and disposed of immediately – so be careful when you are using the launderette, etc.
There can be a maximum of 4 people in the Washing Up room and 3 in the Launderette. When using the other facilities please use every other washbasin – where possible - and be as quick as you can!
Hand sanitizer units are fitted at every doorway – please use them.
Parents – please remember you are responsible for your children at ALL times, which includes social distancing.
Day visitors are NOT permitted.
The above are just some of the measures we have undertaken so we can all enjoy the site and area in a safe way. When easing the lockdown restrictions on 4th July Boris put his trust in the public’s common sense – let’s not disappoint him.
Have a great stay!
Andrew & Sarah
A reminder… Coronavirus has not gone on holiday - it is still out there and your neighbour may have unknowingly brought it with them.
Following yesterday’s Government announcement we are pleased to be opening on Saturday July 4th.
Our showers and toilets, launderette and washing up areas will be open most of the time. Due to the pandemic things are different this year so we will close the showers and toilets at various times for additional cleaning sessions. We will try and keep disruption to a minimum. Queues may well form and you should maintain 2 metres between your fellow campers. The previous ADVICE remains – if you have your own "onboard" facilities / toilet tent you are STRONGLY ADVISED to use them. We have grey waste water and chemical toilet disposal facilities on site.
When we do eventually open for the summer....To help with social distancing due to the ongoing pandemic, those with onboard toilet and shower facilities are STRONGLY ADVISED to use them.
Those without the above are STRONGLY ADVISED to bring a “toilet tent” and a solar shower would be a useful addition to any camper's kit!
We have grey waste water and chemical toilet disposal facilities on site.
Following Sunday night's statement the Government has clarified the position with regards to possible "Earliest opening date" for leisure, etc. as Saturday 4th July, 2020. That is the date we are planning for at Leadstone Camping.
Please keep an eye on this date as it is subject to constant review....
As many of you will be aware on Sunday 10th May the Government issued it’s ‘conditional plan’ which means we have postponed our opening date to 1st July in line with ‘Step 3’ of the phased re-opening of the lock down. The safety and wellbeing of our campers and team is our number one priority so we will continue to act on the latest advice from the relevant authorities and keep this date under constant review.
Many campers were due to arrive with us in the weeks up until this date, so we will be contacting them as a priority over the coming week.
Andrew and Sarah
At the moment the country is experiencing unprecedented times – who knows what will happen in the coming months.
If you have a pitch booked this summer and are unable to come as a result of the Coronavirus we will happily carry forward the booking and any monies paid to Leadstone Camping. This will be a credit note to be used later in the season or the 2021 season. If the cost of the revised booking date is more (or less) the difference will need to be paid (or refunded) as appropriate.
If you have booked through a booking agency different terms and conditions may apply – check directly.
Andrew and Sarah
The "What's On" page has been updated as best I can - I will add other things as they become known to me.

The event is being held on Saturday 15th July from 10am until 10pm, in what the locals refer to as "The Thursday Car Boot field" (Warren Farm) just around the corner from us. We have some great local up and coming talent so you may one day be able to say "I heard them at the Warren"!! Tickets are very reasonably priced too.
We wish the organisers all the best with the event. You can read all about it on their website HERE.

Thanks for staying with us.
See you in the summer!
Andrew and Sarah
Well, where did the season go? We have been tidying up on site for the last few weeks since closing and the grass is recovering well. It was a dry summer which was what we all wanted, even it did mean bending tent pegs! Hope you all had a great time with us and we look forward to Whitsun next year when we shall be opening for the summer.
A few dates for your diary...
Thanks for staying with us.
See you next year!
Andrew and Sarah
Welcome to the summer season at Leadstone Camping - well our only season! The site is looking really great so do come and see us - especially in the next 6 weeks when our rates are low with some great Special Offers too!
We opened at Whitsun this year - great to see our usual "First weekers" a little earlier than usual! Keep an eye on our Facebook for all the latest news...
You will have seen Dawlish on the news recently and our thoughts are with those affected by the storms. We are unaffected at Leadstone and continue to get ready for the summer season ahead! If you were thinking of travelling by train we will collect (and return) you with pleasure, from the nearest working station in the event that Dawlish / Dawlish Warren stations were closed – subject to you making a 4 night booking. See you in the summer!
What a great summer it turned out to be! Amazing weather from the day after the Met Office forecast "10 soggy summers" !! It was like the old days of a proper summer - loads of beach time and warm evenings sat outside. We have had losts of enquiries for next summer already so will be updating the tariff page shortly. Having held the tariff for a few years we are doing our best to keep any price rise as small as possible - EVERYTHING has gone up but you don't need me to tell you that! As usual there will be some great special offers so do take advantage if it suits your plans. Great news for 2014!! The relevant organisers have announced the dates for their FREE to attend summer events so you can organise your dates around them.
9th - 16th August - Dawlish Carnival week
21st August - Thursday - Dawlish Warren Fireworks summer spectacular with Mark Price and friends
23rd August - Saturday - Dawlish Airshow
Do keep an eye on our Facebook page for all the news - no account required just click here www.Facebook.com/leadstone.camping
Thanks for staying with us this year and we hope to see you next year.
Andrew and Sarah.
Great news for 2014!! We are getting organised for next summer and the great news is that we will be opening for Whitsun on Friday 23rd May and hanging the gate up on Monday 1st September.
Maybe see you in the Whitsun half term week?
Hooray - we opened yesterday and what a lovely day we all had! Many of our regular "first weekenders" arrived together with plenty of new campers too - great to see you all!
The season is shaping up nicely so don't leave it too long to book if you are still undecided. Hope to see you in the next few months. Don't forget we use Facebook most of the time now for update, etc - so you can just pop along here to see what we're saying: www.Facebook.com/leadstone.camping
I have brought the "What's On?" page up to date! Airshow now at August Bank Holiday! The weather here has been freezing but feels warmer when the sun is out. Let's hope this bodes well for a decent summer....
Happy New Year all! Hope you all had a great festive season and are looking forward to a long hot summer of camping... - well we can hope!
Lots of bookings coming in already, thank you. The grass is looking very green at the site and has recovered very well indeed from the less than seasonal weather we would all rather forget. We tend to use Facebook now for more regular updates so do keep an eye on our page and "Like Us".
More news later in the year...
We are celebrating 40 seasons of camping here at Leadstone next summer. Dad would say "it only seems like yesterday we opened the gate for the first time"!! A lot of water has gone under the bridge (almost literally!!) and the site has seen only a few changes with hedges / screening planted and improvements to the facilities - most recently this year. We all appreciate the tough economy that we are all suffering so our 40th gift to you is a freeze on our 2012 tariff - NO PRICE RISE FOR 2013!!
We have loads of bookings already so as soon as you know your dates do give Sarah a ring or submit a booking. We look forward to seeing you next summer.
Sarah and I would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
We will be updating the "What's On" listings page for 2013 as events become confirmed but here are 3 that we can tell you about:
Put the last 2 together and make a great Bank Holiday weekend!
We have been using our "Facebook" page to post snippets this summer hence my lack of communication on this page! Just go here www.facebook.com/Leadstone.camping and you can see what we've been doing this "summer", and I use that word loosely!! Shocking weather but hey ho folk made the best of it! We are ALL hoping for a better 2013. We open on Friday June 7th.
There are 3 great little videos above, 4 if you include the "original" Dawlish Warren film.
It was great to see you all this summer, thanks for staying with us.
Andrew and Sarah
Oh dear, not very good weather for the time of year is it? Stiil, folk seem to be getting on with their holidays and the main season looks like being a busy one.
Looking to the "last weekend" and pop group "JLS" are performing in the grounds of Powderham Castle on Saturday September 1st. It is a fantastic venue and well worth a visit at any time of year - the group will be great there I am sure. We are making an occasion of it and offering a special deal to stay with us- £10 to include 2 people/car/tent or camper. ONLY available on the telephone and payment is required at time of booking please!
We look forward to seeing you all as we enter the main season this weekend!
Crikey! Nearly a month gone already.... We have had some pretty challenging weather this month and not what you would expect in June that's for sure. Anyway, everyone has kept their chin up and got on with having a great time. Highlight for us this month was a LIVE TV interview for ITV Westcountry Weather last Friday - May be you saw me? We have really taken to "social media" and have been using Facebook for regular updates - you can see our page here www.facebook.com/Leadstone.camping. No account is required to read our messages so why not take a look ? There are lots of pictures of our new facilities block on there too.
Not booked yet? - if you wait for the weather you'll wait forever! Give us a ring before it's too late. Our special offer runs til the "main season" late next month - we are almost "giving it away"....
First week over and what a week! Welcome to all our regulars and the very many Leadstone "Virgins"! - Sarah and I hope you enjoyed your stay - all things considered. Do come and see us again - hopefully when the sun is out.....
Started well with the weather then it went horribly wrong on Tuesday with the torrential rain and winds. Well done to those that weathered the storm! Our new block has had some teething troubles - namely excess water on the floor in the showers. This is in hand and will be rectified in the next few weeks. As a totally new / replacement for our previous facilities we upgraded the electricity supply to the site at no small expense (£16,000) and our electrical contractors had to re-balance the numerous electric hook-up circuits we have here. It would have been a miracle if this had been correct "at the off"! Our "full house" on Saturday and Sunday nights certainly exposed some issues on this front and on Wednesday (all suppliers closed Mon/Tues due to hols) when the necessary electrical cmponents/gizmos could be obtained the glitches were ironed out - so sorry for any inconvenience with the power tripping out. It really was beyond our control.
Thanks for the great feedback/comments - hooks added to the hair drier area last night and other suggestions under review!
The revised date for the Dawlish Airshow just about got away with the weather but "the old boys" Lancaster, etc did not fly. Well done to the Airshow team for putting on a great day in the most challenging of conditions.
You may have noticed the grass longer than usual? Having seen the forecast last Wednesday we decided to leave it at 4 - 5 inches (normally 2 - 3 inches). The longer grass helps protect the ground in wet conditions.
The season is shaping up nicely so hopefully see many of you next month.
Now, where's the mower.....
Technical glitch.... lost the last few updates! In summary we are now on Twitter and Facebook - click the links at the bottom of the page! We will be opening next Friday 1st June "FULL" with some availability from Tuesday 5th til Sat 9th (morning). Give Sarah a call to see what she can do for you. We have been putting the final touches to our new facilities block so come and have a look at it, we like it and think you will too. Hope to see some of you next weekend!
REMINDER!! We will be opening on Friday June 1st in 2012 to tie in with the revised Whitsun Bank Holiday, Half-term, Diamond Jubilee week and the spectacular Dawlish Airshow now brought forward from August to Friday June 8th. Loads of events going on locally - take a look at www.DawlishJubilee.co.uk. Bookings are coming very well for this week and the "main season" - don't forget we have some great value special offers so as soon as you know your holiday dates give Sarah a ring.
New website not far off launching!
Love is in the air.... lots of you LOVE Leadstone or so you tell us! Look forward to seeing you all this summer!
New facilities block coming along nicely...
Happy New Year !
Happy Camping in 2012
